Trekking Summary

Found in the Arusha National Park, Mount Meru (Kilimanjaro’s little Brother) is Tanzania’s second highest mountain at 4,566 Meters above the Sea level (14,979 ft). Mount Meru is a dormant volcano mountain, that last erupted in 1910 and led to various formation of landscapes around its peaks and foothills.

The trekking to the Mount Meru summit normally takes 3 to 4 days, and during the trekking days you will be accompanied by an armed park ranger as it is almost doing a walking safari while trekking the Mountain. You are expected to see warthogs, buffaloes, birds of various kind and on lucky days you may see elephants and giraffes.

Day 1: Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

Elevation: 1500 to 2500m (4921 to 8202 ft)
Distance: 6km (3.5 Miles)
Hiking time: 4 – 5 hours

Day 2: Miriakamba to Saddle Hut

Elevation: 2500 to 3500m (8202 to 11483 ft)
Distance: 6km (3.5 Miles)
Hiking time: 4 – 5 hours

Day 3: Saddle Hut to Socialit Peak to Miriakamba Hut

Elevation: 3500 to 4562m then 2500 m (11483 to 14967 ft then 8202ft)
Distance: 6km (3.5 Miles)
Hiking time: 4 – 5 hours
Meals: Lunch & Dinner

Day 4: Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate

Elevation: 2500 to 1500m (8202 to 4921 ft)
Distance: 6km (3.5 Miles)
Hiking time: 4 – 5 hours
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
